1000 singers to perform with the African Children’s Choir
and Kate Miller-Heidke in massed choir event

One hundred singers from the Sydney Children's and Campbelltown Gondwana Indigenous Children's Choirs will join local school and community choirs on stage for a massed choir spectacular event with the African Children’s Choir in Wollongong in May 2015.

They will be part of a 1000-strong choir featuring school and community choirs, as well as individual singers, together with Aria-winning singer/songwriter Kate Miller-Heidke for this one-off event to raise awareness and funds for Africa’s destitute children. The massed choir will be conducted by top Australian Musical Directors: Dr Jonathon Welch AM (The Choir of Hard Knocks), Lyn Williams OAM, Rachel Hore OAM, Janet Swain and Yvonne Corstorphin.

The African Children’s Choir is returning to Australia following its inaugural visit in 2013, with sell out concerts and workshops across eastern Australia. This year’s three-month tour includes the massed choir event at the WIN Entertainment Centre on 17 May.

Massed choir participants will sing three songs with the African Children’s Choir and one song with Kate Miller-Heidke.
“This is a unique opportunity for singers of all ages and all over Australia to be part of this stunning event,” Kwaya Australia President Marsha Gusti said.

“The Wollongong concert is about bringing together different cultures through music, while helping to raise funds for vulnerable children in the slums of Africa to provide them with an education they would never otherwise have had.”
The African Children’s Choir is comprised of orphaned and vulnerable children from the disadvantaged Kampala and Luwero areas of Uganda. The 18 children and eight adults will be hosted and billeted by local community and school choirs during their visit to Geelong, Melbourne, Albury, Canberra, Wollongong, Sydney, Nowra, Laurieton, Port Macquarie, Taree, Bellingen, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast and Brisbane.

“We are especially excited about this tour as it offers local residents a unique cultural exchange opportunity where they will get to meet and mix with the choir on a personal level through public workshops and concert performances.”
