About

Be the Influence Wheelchair Rugby Tri-Nations

Now one of the fastest growing sports in the world, for the very first time wheelchair rugby is making its way to Sydney’s CBD  for three action-packed days of world class competition at the Be the Influence Wheelchair Rugby Tri-Nations.

Boasting the number one player in the world, Ryley Batt, the Australian Steelers have assembled an awe-inspiring team of superstars including the likes of Chris Bond, Cameron Carr and Ryan Scott to take on wheelchair rugby powerhouses the USA, and cross-Tasman rivals New Zealand in a battle for the inaugural Tri-Nations Cup.

With pride on the line for all three nations, there will be no holding back with the fastest, strongest and most strategic team certain to come out on top.

For reigning Paralympic gold medal champions Australia, their mission to regain the number one world ranking after losing it to the USA earlier this year will be hard. But with Ryley Batt and Jason Lees at the helm as co-captains, Australia is perfectly positioned to upset the London 2012 bronze medallists, USA, whose resolve to win has never been stronger after their shock loss to Canada at the Paralympic Games. Since then, the reigning world champions have regrouped and will be better than ever at their first tournament in Australia since Sydney 2000.

Both teams however must not underestimate New Zealand’s WheelBlacks, who dominated international wheelchair rugby for almost a decade. The team boasts a revered line up of some of the world’s best players in Dan Buckingham and Cameron Leslie, and with plenty of ex-pat support from the crowd; they will be tough to beat.

The Be the Influence Wheelchair Rugby Tri-Nations will showcase the best of international and Australian sport and inspire all who see it. For more information about wheelchair rugby and the Australian Paralympic Committee, please visit our website at www.paralympic.org.au
