BRUNO MARS
DOO-WOPS & HOOLIGANS APRIL TOUR
Illusive and The Frontier Touring Company are thrilled to announce the first ever Australian tour of #1 charttopper Bruno Mars.
The pop wunderkind, responsible for some of 2010's biggest tracks, including ‘Grenade', ‘Just the Way You Are', Travie McCoy's ‘Billionaire' and B.o.B.'s ‘Nothin' on You', has become one of the most talked-about artists in the world of music.
In Australia Bruno Mars continues to go from strength to strength with both his singles ‘Grenade' and ‘Just The Way You Are' (3 x Platinum) rocketing to number one on the ARIA Singles Chart and his album Doo-Wops & Hooligans (out now through Warner) currently sitting at #3 on the ARIA Album Chart and has achieved platinum sales here whilst surging back to the top of the Billboard 200 album chart in the US. ‘Grenade' has just returned to #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart while simultaneously topping the singles charts in both Canada and the United Kingdom. This marks the second Mars single to accomplish the international feat, following the Grammy Award-nominated ‘Just The Way You Are'.
Mars is only the sixth-ever solo male artist in history to reach the top of the charts with his first two singles and the first to do so in 13 years. Furthermore, ‘Grenade' recently made history with the third biggest sales week of any US single ever (with sales of more than 559,000), and has been certified 2x platinum by the RIAA for total sales exceeding 2 million.
As part of his songwriting / production duo The Smeezingtons, the Hawaiian-born star has penned even more of the year's most prolific songs, including Cee-Lo's ‘F-ck You', K'naan's ‘Waving Flags' (2010 World Cup theme song) and Flo Rida's ‘Right Round'.
In recognition of both his brilliant solo career as well as these songwriting efforts, he has gathered an astonishing 7 nominations for the upcoming 53rd Annual Grammy Awards as well as a 2011 BRIT Award nomination for "Best International Male". Bruno Mars is undeniably the break-through artist of 2010.
Mars feels the best way to experience the sound is to see him perform live with his band. "That is what I'm most excited for - taking these songs and traveling them around the world." The only place he would rather be than in the recording studio, is with his band on stage - where he grew up. "I think people are really going to gravitate towards the live show. We turn it into a party."
Performing in mainly theatre sized venues across Australia this will likely be the last opportunity for fans to experience Bruno Mars in venues of these sizes. Get in early for your tickets because they're likely to get snapped up fast!

In-depth Biography
After a string of behind-the-scene jobs -- everything from writing songs for Brandy to impersonating Elvis -- singer/songwriter/producer Bruno Mars put his name on top of the charts in 2010 by collaborating with rapper B.o.B. for the single “Nothin’ on You.” Born Peter Hernandez in Waikiki, Hawaii, Mars’ kicked off his career at the age of four fronting his uncle’s band as the Island’s youngest Elvis impersonator. Ten years later, he was impersonating the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, with the Legends in Concert show. After graduation, his uncle convinced him to move to the Mainland and follow of his dream of becoming a singer. Months of frustration and going nowhere followed before Mars met songwriter Phillip Lawrence, the man who would convince him to try his hand at writing songs for other artists. The two would dub themselves the Smeezingtons and co-write “Long Distance” which would be recorded in 2008 by R&B singer Brandy. The gigs came in fast after that and in 2009, when the duo co-wrote “Right Round” for rapper Flo Rida, they had their first number one hit on their hands. A year later, Mars would co-write and sing on B.o.B.’s number one hit “Nothin’ on You,” and would do the same for Travie McCoy with his cut “Billionaire.” Also in 2010, he released his debut solo EP It's Better If You Don't Understand which featured more pop material mixed with the R&B. ~ David Jeffries, Rovi
