About

Ellie Goulding recently won an award that meant the world to her. While she is already the recipient of two BRIT awards, two Glamour Awards, multiple Grammy nominations and a Golden Globe nomination, at the 2022 BMI London awards, the globally acclaimed, multi-platinum selling pop star was honoured with the BMI President’s Award for her exemplary contributions to the art of music and songwriting.

“I talked to a therapist about it and she said, ‘You must be proud,’” says Ellie. “It’s often hard to do that. I've always been quite self-deprecating and apologetic about my success because I have imposter syndrome. A couple of the songs that I've released and that have done really well are songs that I didn't write. And then literally everything else I've written. That award was acknowledging that. I do feel proud about it.”

Such modesty is typical of Ellie, who has a reputation as one of music’s most unassuming stars. But her humility belies her impact. Along with the awards, she has sold more than 18 million albums and over 140 million singles. She has accumulated more than 23 billion streams worldwide, has over 50 million followers on social media, has 10 million subscribers on YouTube and over 5 billion views globally. That’s not to mention the three UK Number 1 albums. Whether she’d admit to the fact or not, Ellie Goulding is a pop music icon.

Solidifying this fact is Ellie’s upcoming fifth studio album, Higher Than Heaven. Filled with propulsive, futuristic, no-holds-barred pop bangers, it’s an exemplary demonstration of Ellie’s abilities as a master songwriter. Crafted in collaboration with in-demand hitmakers such as Greg Kurstin, Koz, Julia Michaels, Andrew Wells, Anthony Rossomando, Tom Mann, Ali Tamposi and Andrew Watt, it’s a record that could only have been made by an artist at her most commandeering.
