International folk-blues ambassador, Eric Bibb, is returning to play to Australian fans in March 2009 in support of his stunning new album, Get Onboard. His run of shows will take in most capital cities, and includes much anticipated performances at Byron Bay's East Coast Blues & Roots music festival.

Since Bibb last toured here on the back of his 2006 album Diamond Days, he's played hundreds of shows across three continents, with acclaimed appearances at esteemed festivals in 2008 such as Glastonbury, Cornbury Festival, the Cambridge Folk Festival, Nice Jazz Festival (France), and more.

Produced by Eric Bibb and his producer Glen Scott, Get Onboard is Bibb's finest album to date and significantly topped the most added list at US Triple A radio (Adult album alternative) earlier this year. Featuring guest appearances by Bonnie Raitt and Ruthie Foster, the album signals a deeper exploration into his musical roots. Eric himself said, "My new album is, without a doubt, one of the most exciting projects of my career. It's a further exploration into the place where blues meets gospel and soul."

As if to echo the sentiment, the Austin American-Statesmen commented after seeing a 2008 performance that, "Bibb's voice is a sweet, smoky baritone... when Bibb plays, blues and gospel become one glorious whole."

For fans of sublime bass playing, the exquisite Danny Thompson, who began his career in the legendary sixties folk rock group Pentangle, and has gone on to accompany artists such as Roy Orbison, Richard Thompson and Kate Bush, will join Eric on stage for the Australian tour. The "extraordinary percussionist" Larry Crockett (Daily Telegraph, London), joins Eric and Danny in Australia. Larry has played everywhere from the Cotton Club and the legendary Apollo Theater, through to the Royal Albert Hall and the Olympia in Paris, accompanying everyone from Elton John to Liz McComb, the Four Tops, Martha Reeves, and more.

Eric Bibb's music is a rich blend of the blues with elements of folk, country, gospel, and soul. He is the son of New York folk singer Leon Bibb, who influenced Eric immeasurably with exposure to a wide variety of acoustic folk music and the opportunity to "hang out" with performers like Pete Seeger and Bob Dylan in the sixties when Eric was a young boy. He later went on to immerse himself in pre-war blues guitar playing and songwriting, moved to Europe in his twenties and eventually settled in Sweden where a world music folk scene was emerging ahead of being marketed throughout the globe.

Don't miss Eric Bibb live on his Australian tour for an evening representing the pinnacle of gospel tinged folk-blues delivered by a legend of the art form.
