About

Assemble the congregation. Father John Misty is heading back to hear your rock n roll confession.

Secret Sounds is thrilled to announce that Father John Misty is extending his stay down under in 2018. Already set to grace stages at Laneway festivals around the country, FJM will also play dates in Sydney and Melbourne.

Passionate and disillusioned, cynical and openhearted - traits that, coupled with a killer set of pipes, have seen Father John Misty AKA Josh Tillman cemented as a singular and totally distinctive voice since the release of his 2012 album Fear Fun.

He dropped his second album in 2015, the critically acclaimed I Love You, Honeybear catapulting his star to new heights.

Tillman comes to Australia armed with his latest record, Pure Comedy. The album sees FJM at the top of his game and is an odyssey through which he navigates themes of progress, technology, fame, the environment, politics, social media, human nature and his own role in it all with his usual frankness.

FJM wrote Pure Comedy throughout 2015, recording the vocals and basic tracking live to cassette and in no more than two takes each. The record is the ultimate insight into Tillman’s mind, admitting to Pitchfork “If you take away my music from me, all you have left is a moustache and a bad attitude.”

After captivating crowds around the world this year at the likes of Glastonbury and Coachella, he also held the punters of Splendour in the Grass in his emotional grip…literally. He got down off that stage and hugged fans amidst a truly spectacular show. The love didn’t stop there, with tickets to his Splendour sideshows selling out in no time at all.

With a reputation like this, tickets won’t last long. Don’t miss your chance for an audience (and perhaps a holy embrace) with Father John Misty this summer!
