KC and THE SUNSHINE BAND - shakin bootys and selling over 100 million albums since 1973

With their catalogue of dance anthems including Get Down Tonight, That’s The Way (I Like It), Please Don’t Go, Shake Your Booty, Keep It Comin’ Love, Boogie Shoes, Rock Your Baby, I’m Your Boogie Man, (Shake, Shake, Shake) Shake Your Booty to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. KC & The Sunshine Band are still as widely popular today as they were when they first danced into the music scene 40 years ago.

Harry Wayne Casey – KC for short – started working in the music business at age 17, performing menial tasks around the T.K. Records/Studio complex in his hometown of Miami. The Sunshine Band originated in 1973, at which time he began writing songs with bassist Richard Finch and developing  those award-winning grooves based in a unique fusion of R&B and funk, with a hint of a Latin percussion groove.

KC won a songwriting Grammy in 1976 for best R&B song for WHERE IS THE LOVE, which was recorded by Betty Wright.  He also received Grammy Awards for Album of the Year, as well as Producer of the Year in 1978 for his work on the SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER soundtrack. His music has also been featured in over 75 movies such as “Forrest Gump” (Get Down Tonight), “Boogie Nights” (Boogie Shoes), “Boys Don’t Cry” (Rock Your Baby) among many others. White Zombie, Baha Men, Beyoncé Knowles have covered his music and his grooves and bass lines have been sampled by R. Kelly, Snoop Dogg, Trick Daddy and Ultra Nate and many, many more.

With sales of over 100 million records, nine Grammy nominations, three Grammy Awards and an American Music Award, KC and The Sunshine Band was one of the most progressive bands of the 70’s and is credited with changing the sound of modern pop music! Forty years later, his “Sunshine Sound”, infectious, feel-good happy music still gets audiences worldwide out of their seats and dancing.

Quote from Peter Noble:
“this is a band who came from the era where people bought records and KC and the Sunshine Band have over 100 million record sales to prove it.” he added “this puts them at the same level of sales as Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, The Who and Stevie Wonder and three times more than Pearl Jam” Peter Noble
