The National Theatre is located approximately 5 kms from the Melbourne CBD, and is just 150 metres from the St. Kilda foreshore and Luna Park. Make a right hand turn into Carlisle Street from St.Kilda / Brighton road if you are heading away from the city. Melways reference 58 B10.

Parking

In addition to the parking listed, there is a Wilson carpark above Coles off Barkly St approx 50 metres down the road. There is also metered parking around Luna Park and the Palais Theatre (Cavell St).

Public Transportation

Light rail No. 96 from Bourke street to Acland Street, Tram No. 15 from Swanston Street to Acland Street. Bus No. 246 runs down Hoddle Street and Punt Road, stopping outside the theatre. The closest railway station is Balaclava, which is approximately a ten minute walk away.

Accessible Seating

Disabled access to the theatre is available via a vertical lift located in the lower foyer (just past the ladies toilets) to the mezzanine level foyer. There are two stair climbers available to take either a standard wheelchair or mobility impaired patrons up to the auditorium or bar areas. The stair climbers have a maximum load of 225 kgs and are designed for standard (non-motorised) wheelchairs. Their base dimensions are 77 cm (wide) by 100 cm (long). Equipment outside these limits cannot be safely accommodated. Patrons are requested to contact the box office directly on 9525 4611 to discuss their needs and requirements prior to booking. All bookings requiring the wheelchair locations in the auditorium must be made through the box office and are not available on-line. A hearing loop is available to be turned on if prior warning received by the theatre management. Either a headphone or neck loop is available from the box office upon request.

Children Rules

Babes-in-arms may be admitted to the performance on the proviso that no other patron is disturbed by the baby.

Miscellaneous

Cameras & videos may not be used. Smoking is not allowed within the venue. Mobile phones and pagers must be turned off before entering auditorium.
