Canadian singer-songwriters Tegan And Sara will return to Australia this April and May for a run of headline dates, alongside the already announced Groovin’ The Moo festival. When the the identical twins first came to our attention with their canny pop smarts all those years ago, they were a brash young indie outfit, doing things on their own terms as they had been since beginning their musical adventures together way back in the late-‘90s. Oh, how things have changed.
 
These days Tegan And Sara are well and truly entrenched in the big leagues, having sold nearly a million career albums and having shared stages around the world with bands of the calibre of The Killers and Neil Young. Their music has grown organically to the point where – while still adored by their underground early adopters – they’ve gained a whole new following in the pop realm, their timeless and heartfelt music connecting with people of all ages, scenes and demographics. The White Stripes even recorded and released a version of Tegan And Sara’s Walking With A Ghost, and you don’t score much more credibility than that!
 
The last time the twins visited Australian shores was back in 2010 for the travelling Groovin’ The Moo extravaganza – their fifth visit Down Under – and they enjoyed the rural festivities so much they’ve signed on again for the 2013 installment  along with undertaking their own massive headlining shows in Brisbane, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. But it’s not a gratuitous visit, by the time they arrive here in April they’ll have dropped their seventh album, Heartthrob, so they’ll be armed with an entire arsenal of new tunes as well as their canon of trusty old faves!
 
Tegan And Sara have big hopes and ambitions for this release, their first since 2009’s acclaimed Sainthood. So far they’ve released the album’s first single, Closer, and the results have been phenomenal, racking up over half a million online streams already and garnering rave reviews and airplay from around the world, as well as gaining them a slot on The Late Show With David Letterman. The track, which Sara has taken to calling her “let’s get it on” song, is indicative of the bigger, bolder and happier sound of the new album, and is bound to go over superbly in the live realm on these upcoming dates.
 
So whether you’re a long-term diehard or a newcomer to the myriad delights of Tegan And Sara, do yourself a favour and check them out when they hit Australian shores once again this April and May, they’re playing pretty much every city and rural centre in the country.

In-depth Biography
Folk-rock duo Tegan & Sara first burst onto the Canadian music scene in 1998, when they earned the highest score in history at Calgary's "Garage Warz" competition; their quick rise didn't stop, for their melodic acoustics and charming stage personas led to a slew of dates with Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair that same year and a record deal with Neil Young's Vapor Records in April 2000. Natives of Calgary, these twin sisters transpired their music interests from the likings of their parents. Tegan & Sara began playing piano at age eight, and in their teens they were skanking around in their own punk bands. This Business of Art, which was produced by singer/songwriter Hawksley Workman, marked their debut in mid-2000 and summer tour with Neil Young and the Pretenders followed in July.
