Short Biography
THE BLOODY BEETROOTS
SYDNEY, BRISBANE & MELBOURNE SIDE SHOWS ANNOUNCED!
THE BLOODY BEETROOTS is Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo, the Italian producer born the same year as punk rock, a fact emphatically made clear by the “1977” tattooed across his chest.
In fact, that tattoo is about the most identifying public feature of Rifo, whose penchant for wearing masks seems to be a declaration of ominous anonymity that defers the spotlight to his long list of productions, projects, films, art, manifestoes and musical incarnations emanating from THE BLOODY BEETROOTS production epicenter.
From the start, THE BLOODY BEETROOTS was capable of synergizing sonics and sensibilities from The Damned to Debussy, the anthemic wistfulness of new wave and primal screams of hardcore punk, into remarkably actualized efforts that became platforms for larger socio-political historiography and cultural histrionics
“Electronic dance music is the bridge that spans my musical influences,” explains Rifo. “My intention was to use the energy of punk to give it a devastating new form--one that embraces different universes of sound, the ordered chaos that I live every day, the unique shape that every thought should have.”
In a world first, THE BLOODY BEETROOTS will be premiering their new live show at BIG DAY OUT 2013 with Rifo telling InTheMix “I can not tell you much except that it will be a big step forward, both musically and theatrically speaking. Having played my songs with Bloody Beetroots Death Crew 77 and the DJ set, I have gained a new vision of the project – a more versatile, compact, furious and dance-inducing vision.” To add to their arsenal, THE BLOODY BEETROOTS return this summer with "Rocksteady", a new track that has taken charge of dance floors the world over.
Get prepared for an in-your-face sonic assault as THE BLOODY BEETROOTS are bringing an overblown and opulent spectacle that you do not want to miss!
These shows are your only chance to see THE BLOODY BEETROOTS outside of BIG DAY OUT 2013
In-depth Biography
Signed to celebrity DJ Steve Aoki's Dim Mak label and often compared stylistically to French electro superstars Justice, the Bloody Beetroots -- technically a solo project of one Sir Bob Cornelius Rifo, who is assisted on-stage and behind the decks by Tommy Tea -- generated significant buzz in the music blogosphere with remixes and production work. The Italian duo's masked appearance à la Daft Punk also garnered media attention. The Bloody Beetroots began establishing themselves as a performance act in early 2008 with a short American tour that included a stop at South by Southwest as well as numerous club gigs in Los Angeles, where they appeared alongside Aoki. Following a handful of EPs, the Bloody Beetroots' first album, Romborama, was released in 2009. ~ Jason Birchmeier, Rovi
