TINA ARENA TO RETURN FOR TWO ENCORE ORCHESTRA PERFORMANCES IN
MELBOURNE AND SYDNEY

For release – Friday, 16 November, 2012:  Tim Woods Entertainment is  thrilled to announce that Tina Arena  is returning to Australia for two encore orchestra shows on Tuesday, 12 February, 2013 at Hamer Hall in Melbourne and Tuesday, 26 February, 2013 at the State Theatre in Sydney.

Tina performed three sold out shows in Melbourne July and August this year as part of the Hamer Hall re-opening celebrations and will once again be accompanied by her band and an orchestra led by young Melbourne conductor Nicholas Buc.  The final Hamer Hall show in August was filmed and the Symphony of Life 2CD and DVD is instore from 23 November, 2012.

Sydney fans will also get the opportunity of seeing Tina again shine with the magnificent Sydney Symphony following four sold-out shows at the Sydney Opera House earlier this year.

“The shows earlier this year with the Orchestras were so much fun I can’t wait to come back home in February and do it again!” said Tina.

Anthony Callea will once again join Tina on stage for these encore performances.  Anthony’s debut single The Prayer became Australia’s fastest and highest selling single of all time with sales in excess of 4x Platinum and topped the charts for an amazing five weeks.  The ARIA Award winner followed his debut single with a multi-Platinum No.1 single, a multi-Platinum No.1 selling album and two further Top 10 hits.

Tina Arena may not be the first pop singer to perform with a symphony orchestra, but she is one of the few contemporary artists with a mastery of a variety of musical genres in the orchestral repertoire. While many pop artists choose to embellish their songs by adding some strings, brass or percussion, for Tina it’s more a matter of seamless integration in a variety of styles and genres that she has worked in throughout her career.

From the age of 17, when she was plucked from teen television stardom to perform in director John Diedrich’s Australian production of the musical Nine, to her powerhouse performance as the Narrator in Lloyd Weber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Tina has proven she is more than just an accomplished holder of a tune.

Whether as the lead role, Esmeralda, in the premiere UK production of Notre Dame de Paris, as Sally Bowles in the Sam Mendes directed Cabaret or Roxie Hart in the West End production of that most enduring of musicals, Chicago, Tina has also proven herself an adept theatrical performer.

If musical theatre has honed Tina’s skills as a singer, the series of duets she has performed through the years, with some of the world’s most celebrated artists, has served to only increase her versatility as a performer.

Her haunting series of duets with Andrea Bocelli, including The Prayer and Canto della Terra, showed her ability to keep pace with a world class tenor – in Italian, no less - a feat she repeated with celebrated Italian rock singer, Zucchero on his classic Senza una Donna. With Marc Anthony, and for The Mask of Zorro, she created the monster hit, I Want to Spend My Lifetime Loving You. It cemented her reputation as a singer with global appeal.

But it was on-stage in New York with the late, great Donna Summer that Tina realised a dream.

“I have been so blessed to be able collaborate with some of my musical heroes,” says Tina. “Donna Summer songs were the soundtrack to my childhood; to perform alongside her was just magical.”

From Bocelli to Donna Summer, opera to disco, orchestra to musical theatre – it’s all music to Tina.

“So many different things inspire me,” she says. “They creep in and out of my life. Trying new things and taking on new challenges is after all what keeps life interesting.”

From her humble beginnings in Moonee Ponds and a career defining slot on Young Talent Time in the early 1980s to the international superstar she is now, ‘Tiny’ Tina Arena is a national treasure and a singer with the ability to touch and capture hearts. Tina Arena performing to the accompaniment of Australia’s internationally recognised symphony orchestras is not only a match made in musical heaven, it’s the melding of one of Australian contemporary music’s most sublime voices with some of the nation’s most accomplished musicians and a show not to be missed!

In-depth Biography
Australian child television star Tina Arena grew into a pair of very large shoes, becoming one of the country's best-selling female artist in history, although she struggled in America. Before Arena was a successful recording artist, though, she was Tiny Tina Arena, an eight-year-old performer on the Australian television series Young Talent Time. After auditioning for a talent show and winning the prize several weeks in a row, she was invited to become a permanent member. Seven years later, Arena was still on the show, and though she found it difficult to split her adolescence in two -- spending the first half in the camera's glare while in its shadow after the age of 15 -- she began performing in nightclubs and making a few recordings as well as recording commercial jingles.

Tina Arena was set to make her comeback by 1989, at the tender age of 21. She released her debut album, Strong as Steel, and watched as "I Need Your Body" became one of the biggest singles in the country that year. In 1991, Arena spent much time in Los Angeles working on her songwriting skills, and also toured Australia with a production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat (playing the narrator).

Arena's second major album, Don't Ask, made her a worldwide star. After the single "Chains" hit number one in Australia, it crossed the globe to reach the British Top Ten and American Top 40. The album was certified eight times platinum in Australia, and sold over two million copies worldwide. For her third album, In Deep, she worked with producer Mick Jones (of Foreigner), and even covered Foreigner's "I Want to Know What Love Is." ~ John Bush, Rovi
