About
"Hey Hey, It's The Basics!" - an all-ages variety show is taking over Melbourne's famed Athenaeum Theatre on Saturday 30th June. Accompanied by live strings, horns and keyboard players, Melbourne's burgeoning hipster trio The Basics will be launching their debut album Stand Out / Fit In, playing the record in its entirity.
Co-starring in this exciting event will be Melbourne songsmiths and storytellers Spargo (fresh from a brief rest following two extensive tours of Europe and the UK), the subtle and luscious songwriting talents of Emma Heeney supported by her band The Daves, a buzz-a-riffic Little Red, following a highly successful residency at the Tote - and fast becoming touted the finest white-boy RnB/soul group since The Bee Gees - and Sydney rockers Tokenview, delivering acoustic versions of their beautiful songs "Broken China Doll", "I Dream", " Girl on Fire" and others.
Comedic guests include Lawrence Leung, 2007 winner of The Age Critics' Award for Best Australian Show at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, "celebrated humourist and impunctual good-nik" Andrew McClelland, star of MixTape and nonstopical.com, and ukelele-wielding, blue-suede suit wearing stand-up genius Oliver Clark.
The show will be captured on glorious 16mm film.
