Short Biography
James Blunt charmed Australian and New Zealand fans on his maiden tour Down Under in 2006, selling out every single show. James returned to our shores in 2007 for a one-off performance in Sydney - which again sold out - and those before him were left smitten, begging for his return. And in 2008, everyone's prayers will be answered when James Blunt returns to Australia and New Zealand this April and May.
James shot to worldwide prominence following the release of his debut album Back To Bedlam in 2005. Achieving what few artists are able to after releasing just one album, Back To Bedlam hit #1 in countless countries, awards and nominations for James began to mount up.
Spawning the hit singles ‘You're Beautiful' and ‘Goodbye My Lover' James Blunt became a household name as they became the anthems of 2006. Australian and New Zealand fans answered the James Blunt call, proving to be the most devoted in his following. Back To Bedlam sold in excess of 650 000 copies in Australia and New Zealand, spending a combined total of 24 weeks at #1 on the ARIA and RIANZ album charts.
James Blunt's phenomenal success was continued with the release of 2007's acclaimed All The Lost Souls (Warner Music). Q Magazine declared the album "a fearsomely efficient follow-up to Back To Bedlam" while the Los Angeles Times warned "he's onto something. He's not making background music."
All Music Guide gave high praise: "It will seduce anybody already won over by his 2005 debut, "Back to Bedlam," since it's a tighter, more assured record than that. But chances are, they were seduced by Blunt already." And The Sun named All The Lost Souls' cover art as the "best in years".
Peaking at #1 in 19 different countries, All The Lost Souls has notched up platinum sales in both countries. Without a doubt, James Blunt's achievements will continue to grow in 2008.
With a history of selling out tours the world over - and notably selling out every past show to date in Australia and New Zealand - tickets to see James Blunt perform live this April and May will not last long.
If you've seen James live before, you'll understand it is an experience to be repeated many times over. If you missed James last time, don't make the same mistake twice.
In-depth Biography
A former British Army officer, singer/songwriter James Blunt is a thoughtful performer with a knack for crafting melodic contemporary soft rock tunes. Born in Tidworth, Wiltshire, England in 1974 to a family with a long military history, Blunt entered the army after graduating from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. Ultimately achieving the rank of captain, Blunt served with the NATO peacekeeping force in Kosovo and finished out his time in the military as a member of the Life Guard Regiment in the British Household Cavalry. Having long been interested in music, Blunt wasted no time in pursuing a pop career after leaving the army.
A subsequent performance at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin, TX, brought Blunt to the attention of 4 Non Blondes singer/producer Linda Perry, who signed Blunt to her Custard Records label. Released in 2005, Blunt's debut album, Back to Bedlam, and its hit single, "You're Beautiful," was hugely successful -- it hit number one in over a dozen countries, and sold over 10 million copies worldwide. Blunt toured for much of 2005 and 2006, then released the two-disc "odds and sods" live/documentary album Chasing Time: The Bedlam Sessions in 2006. He had been writing songs while on the road, and brought Back to Bedlam producer Tom Rothrock in again to record. (The songs featured writing collaborations with Mark Batson, Jimmy Hogarth. Steve McEwan, and Max Martin, while the recordings featured Blunt's live backing band.) His sophomore effort, All the Lost Souls -- featuring the lead-off single "1973" -- finally dropped in September 2007. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
