Ticketmaster History

BASS Victoria 1978 - 1995

The Victorian Government under the auspices of the Victorian Arts Centre Trust was the sole owner and operator of BASS Victoria when it began began trading in 1978 untill 1995.

In 1988 BASS Victoria began working with Ticketmaster, when it replaced its existing ticketing software to become a licensee of Ticketmaster.

Ticketmaster 1995 - 1999

In June 1995 the Victorian Government announced that a Joint Venture had been created with Ticketmaster to form Ticketmaster BASS. This enabled the business to expand and diversify both operationally and geographically. Ticketmaster Corporation assumed the role of managing partner on 1st December, 1995. From 1997 the new entity traded as Ticketmaster throughout Australia and New Zealand.

Ticketmaster Expands into Queensland 1997

In early 1997 Ticketmaster expanded into Queensland setting up a regional office, which is now servicing clients such as the Brisbane Lions AFC and Queensland Reds.

Ticketmaster Expands into New South Wales 1997

In late 1997 Ticketmaster expanded into New South Wales with the purchase of Firstcall. Ticketmaster Sydney is now servicing a growing number of Sydney based clients, inclusive of; The State Theatre, Capital Theatre, Sydney Festival and V8 Bathurst.

Ticketmaster Expands into Tasmania 1998

In 1998 Ticketmaster expanded into Tasmania when the company signed an exclusive ticketing agreement to ticket the Derwent Entertainment Centre.

Ticketmaster Corporation takes full control - March 1999

In March 1999 Ticketmaster Corporation purchased the remaining 49.9% of the Victorian State Governments stake in the business taking full control of the business.

Ticketmaster7 - September 1999

In September 1999, Ticketmaster7 was formed when Ticketmaster sold 49.9% of the business to i7. In October 1999 i7's successful Western Australian ticketing company Red Tickets Pty Ltd was transferred into Ticketmaster7 Pty Ltd.

Ticketmaster Corporation obtains full ownership - April 2005

Ticketmaster acquired the shares in Ticketmaster7 previously held by Seven Network Limited. This acquisition reflects Ticketmaster's continued international expansion of technology and ticketing services.
