About
The band kicks in with the opening number and the audience goes wild as Matthew (the dreamy hunk) Mark (the sensitive one) Luke (he's street wise and just out of re-hab) Juan (the Ricky Martin look-alike) and Abraham (the Jewish one) hit the stage.
Welcome to the Apostles of Pop final show of their Australia wide "Save the Souls" tour.
During the next ninety minutes, we learn the genesis of the Altar Boyz and share the hilarious and touching stories of the "Soul Saving" tour.
The big question is. Will they be able to save the souls of the audience on their final night?
And this is where the fun starts! A revolutionary electronic device, the Soul Sensor DZ 12 counts the members of the audience whose souls need saving! By the end of the show and if the Boyz have worked their magic, the Sensor will register zero.
And of course, the audience feels all the better for it, having shared the Boyz secrets, laughs and love.
The tight harmonies and dynamic choreography never let up, from the opening "We are the Altar Boyz to the closing "I Believe" with styles veering from disco to latin, from hip hop, to gospel, and from rock to soaring ballads.
With music and lyrics by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker and Book by Kevin Del Aguila, Altar Boyz is a multi award winning musical. The show was nominated for and won the Critics Circle Best Musical Award in 2005. It was nominated for seven Drama Desk awards in the same year and honoured with two Drama League Awards. Altar Boyz in now playing its 3rd year on Broadway.
