One of the world’s most popular musical artists – Dutch violinist, conductor and entertainer André Rieu – will once again stage his annual hometown summer concert series in Maastricht in early July 2019. These are his most popular concerts of the year - more than 140,000 fans converge on the historic town to enjoy the concerts live, and hundreds of thousands of fans enjoy the concert up on the big screen in theatres and cinemas worldwide just a couple of weeks later.
Sydney’s iconic State Theatre will showcase André’s 2019 Maastricht concert at a Special Event Screening on one date only - Sunday 28 July 2019 @ 1pm.
André’s Maastricht concerts are staged in the town’s atmospheric medieval square – the Vrijthof. Each year the scale of the production of the concert is bigger and better than the last. Coverage by up to 30 cameras, including new drone-camera technology, ensures that screen audiences do not miss a moment of the Maestro’s trademark humour, or a single detail of the gorgeous costumes worn by the musicians in his orchestra. The sound production is superb, and the experience is intimate, comfortable and affordable – it really is the next best thing to being there.
This year, the Maastricht concerts will be themed as a dedication to the waltz – the dance which helped launch André’s career more than three decades ago.
The majestic waltz has been such an inspiration to André Rieu throughout his career that its three-four beat has become, in many ways, the rhythm of his life. When he performed with a salon orchestra as a violin student, the Maestro says the first waltz he played was a revelation and he was immediately spellbound.
Waltzes have starred in André’s work ever since. From the legendary Champions league semi-final between Ajax and Borussia Dortmund, performing in the interval for a packed stadium of 60,000 football fans, to his Maastricht concerts of 2011, where André premiered ‘And The Waltz Goes On’, composed by Oscarâ-winning actor Sir Anthony Hopkins. André has composed many waltzes and since 1987, he and his Johann Strauss Orchestra have been delighting audiences all over the world with their magnificent renditions of classic waltzes.
Audiences are sure to be swept off their feet by this magical concert as they join the King of the Waltz, his Johann Strauss Orchestra, world class sopranos, Platin Tenors, a cast of over 100 dancers, plus special guests for an incomparable entertainment experience at the Special Event Screening of André Rieu’s 2019 Maastricht Concert - ‘Shall We Dance?’ at Sydney’s exquisite State Theatre.
In addition to sublime music - show tunes, classical music favourites and a special nod to the music of the waltz – there will be glorious dancing, dazzling light shows and spectacular fireworks. The audience will get to go behind-the-scenes in Maastricht, enjoy an exclusive stage-side interview with The King of the Waltz, plus there are always surprises.
André says: “Once again I am delighted to welcome fans from Australia into my hometown of Maastricht, via their cinema and theatre screens in 2019! It is a magical way of seeing what for me every year is a wonderful occasion! This year will be extra special – performing the music of my heart: the Waltz. Come and join us for “The Beautiful Blue Danube” and many more surprises, some of which we will reveal during the weeks to come! I want everyone to be waltzing in the aisles!’
