About Dr. Dre

Dr. Dre is a rapper, entrepreneur, and most significantly hip-hop’s premier producer influencing the genre of music since the early 1990s. Dr. Dre’s masterful skills and perfectionist attitude have produced monster hits and molded the careers of Snoop Dogg, Eminem, 50 Cent, and Kendrick Lamar. Dr. Dre acted as executive producer for Eminem’s latest release The Marshall Mathers LP2 which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, selling over 792,000 copies in its first week in November 2013. The producer has toured on the “Up in Smoke Tour” with fellow rappers Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and Ice Cube and made appearances on Eminem and Jay Z’s “The Home & Home Tour.” Perhaps the most memorable in concert moment is Dr. Dre’s 2012 Coachella appearance with Snoop Dogg and the Tupac hologram.

As part of the influential hip-hop group N.W.A., Straight Outta Compton was released in 1988 pioneering the gangsta rap genre. After leaving the group to create Death Row Records with Suge Knight, Dr. Dre released his debut album The Chronic developing the g-funk genre, a relaxed variation of gangsta rap marked with funky, slow grooves. The album peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart, made Dr. Dre one of the best selling artists of 1993, and earned him a Grammy Award. After leaving Death Row Records, the rap mogul launched his own successful label Aftermath Entertainment and later the company Beats Electronics which produces the popular Beats by Dr. Dre headphones.
