The Voice Of “MAD WORLD”

GARY JULES

This January, Gary Jules, the man hunted down by the FBI for allowing “Mad World” to be used in a TV advert for the Julian Assange telemovie, is hiding out in a venue near you.
Oh allright - let’s get a little more serious.....

“One of the most gifted song writing talents to surface during the decade.”- All Music
Talk about slow burn – Gary Jules released his somophore album “Trading Snakeoil for Wolftickets” in 2001 to rapturous acclaim (“The best album to be released this year, anywhere. Period.” The Village Voice), but not unfortunately, to many sales. Tucked away on the album however was a starkly haunting rendition of the 1980’s Tears For Fears’ evocation of teen bewilderment at the seemingly chaotic insanity of the daily rat-race – “Mad World”.

Composer Michael Andrews, who was working on the score for “Donnie Darko” opted to include “Mad World” in the soundtrack to the film and the track started to gain attention, particularly in Australia and the UK where urban myth has it that Robbie Williams selected the track during a guest DJ spot leading to massive airplay and a Christmas number 1.

Three years after release “Trading Snakeoil for Wolftickets” went Gold then Platinum in the UK and then all over Europe. “Mad World” was one of the biggest singles of 2004 in Australia.

Jules has toured the world, sharing the stage with Jack Johnson, Sheryl Crow, Beck, Mason Jennings, Jewel, Jason Mraz, The Polyphonic Spree, Liz Phair, Todd Rundgren and Bob Dylan.
Gary has also released two further albums of emotional potency, and can be counted as one of the world’s great songwriters.

Now in January 2013, Australia gets to enjoy the embracing live experience of Gary Jules in concert. A born storyteller, Gary draws you into to his experience and touches your heart with his expressive song-craft. No-one can create such beauty from the pairing of pretty melodies with tales of pain, heartbreak and tragedy quite like Gary. Even a song like Cheap Trick’s “I Want You To Want Me” is totally transformed by Gary in to another poignant experience altogether.

When the last chord is strummed you will be spellbound, and then as the spell breaks you will be cheering for more. Do not miss Gary Jules this January. It will be an experience you will never forget.

“...at once beautiful and haunting, depressing and inspiring, lonely and welcoming — delicately crafted folk music of the highest order.” Rolling Stone
