Hanggai are at the forefront of China's progressive music scene. The six-piece create their unique, unconventional and exciting sound using folk instruments including the morin khuur (a horsehair fiddle) and the tobshuur (two-stringed lute), fused with propulsive throat-singing and electric guitars.
Hanggai have wowed festival audiences at WOMAD, Roskilde and even Wacken, the world's biggest metal festival. They make their Australian debut during Sydney Festival, following the release of their second album He Who Travels Far.
Hanggai also perform at the Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre, Penrith.
