About Kate Miller-Heidke

City Recital Hall Presents

Kate Miller-Heidke and Iain Grandage

Pop-icon Kate Miller-Heidke and composer and director Iain Grandage join forces for re-imagination of Kate’s unique music that effortlessly melds indie, pop and opera. The pair collaborated first on the multiple Helpmann Award winning opera The Rabbits that sold out across the country. Now they will present a unique one-off performance featuring some of Kate’s chart-topping hits such as ‘The Last Day on Earth’ and ‘Caught in the Crowd’ like you’ve never heard it before.

Kate Miller-Heidke trained as a classical singer at the Queensland Conservatorium, and recently appeared at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in The Death of Klinghoffer by John Adams. Together with her husband Keir Nuttall, Kate Miller-Heidke wrote twenty original songs for Muriel’s Wedding: The Musical.

Iain Grandage is a multi-Helpmann Award winner for his work on Secret River, Cloudstreet, When Time Stops and Meow Meow’s Little Match Girl. He has curated the chamber music program for the Adelaide Festival, and been the Artistic Director of the Port Fairy Spring Music Festival since 2016. He has been composer-in-Residence with the WA Symphony Orchestra, and has an extensive track record of collaboration with indigenous artists across the country.

Don’t miss Kate Miller-Heidke and Iain Grandage in this intimate music session that will be unlike any other.

“The finest vocals in Australian music.” The Border Mail

“Indie-pop for adults … smart, challenging and mature pop music.” Rolling Stone

“Her voice is as glorious as it’s ever been, with her delicate lower register offset by a piercing spinto soprano. Somehow her on-stage presence is both ethereal and relatable.” Daily Review

“Extraordinary, daring and (a) musically confident pop concert.” Daily Review

“Miller-Heidke’s work has often been driven by the fun tension between her technically mesmerising and frequently theatrical vocal talent, and the unassuming nature of her lyrics, peppered with mundane but resonating imagery.” Adelaide Review
