About Luscious Jackson
'90s alt-rock postergirls Luscious Jackson combined equal parts edge and polish to create some of the most subversively original indie pop of the decade. After a ten-year hiatus, the band reunited in 2011, proving they hadn't lost any of their immediacy or technique with 2013's fan-funded and critically acclaimed Magic Hour — their first album of new material since 1999's Electric Honey. Featuring their '90s hits, cuts from the new album, and a healthy dose of riot grrrl sensibility, the band's much-awaited 2013 reunion shows have anticipation for their 2014 tour dates at fever pitch.
Formed in Manhattan in 1991, Luscious Jackson got their break after performing a show with the Beastie Boys, who signed the band as the first act on their fledgling Grand Royal label. After releasing two demo EPs, the girls made their album debut with 1994's Natural Ingredients, which spawned three singles and videos that received heavy airplay on MTV. Riding a wave of female-fronted alternative bands that included Garbage and Veruca Salt, the band experienced even more success with 1996 sophomore album Fever In Fever Out, scoring their first Top 40 hit with "Naked Eye." Shortly after the 1999 release of Electric Honey, the band announced their breakup — a hiatus that would be broken by their long-awaited reunion in 2011.
