About

The legendary composer, singer and oud master with a rebel soul, returns to the Concert Hall stage with his acclaimed trio ensemble.
One of the Arab world’s most significant artists and activists, celebrated composer, singer and oud master, Marcel Khalife returns to the Concert Hall to re-ignite the passion, beauty and character of Arabic song.

Returning to our shores after a five year absence, this time accompanied by his two sons - pianist Rami and percussionist Bachar, Khalife is set to draw from a musical repertoire spanning over four decades, once again treating audiences to the potent Arabic and Mediterranean pulse that runs through his inimitable combination of traditional Middle Eastern and Western elements, that resonate well beyond the Arab world.

Over the decades, Khalife’s music and his own compositions have signified peace, reconciliation and breaking boundaries. Liberating the oud from its traditionally strict techniques, Khalife’s virtuosic playing creates a sound that is always innovative, inspiring, and beautiful, often depicting a sophisticated musical marriage of classical Arabic and jazz music. As a composer, he demonstrates a deep attachment to and a profound understanding of the power of the written word.

Working with centuries of music heritage, this concert will be a rare privilege to experience the work of a true musical genius lauded not only for his musical talents, but its inextricable link to his passion for the art of his religion and advocacy for human rights.
