About

Haydn's choral masterpiece  "The Creation"  is widely regarded as not only Haydn's greatest work but to be one of the greatest choral works of the entire classical period. Filled with magnificent orchestral writing, rousing choruses and glorious arias, "The Creation" portrays and celebrates the creation of the world as described in the Book of Genesis and in Milton's epic poem 'Paradise Lost'. Famous highlights include: the 'Representation of Chaos and Light', 'In Native Worth', 'Achieved is the Glorious Work', 'With Verdure Clad' and the stirring chorus "The Heavens are Telling'. With over 200 musicians onstage this performance will feature over 150 voices of the Melbourne University Choral Society, 50 members of the Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as three of Australia's finest young soloists who togerther will present this great masterpiece in the atmospheric surrounds of St Paul's Cathedral. Directing the performance will be award-winning conductor Andrew Wailes, whose powerful choral performances are known for their energy and emotional intensity.
