PERFORMING TOGETHER

RANDY CRAWFORD & JOE SAMPLE

TOURING AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND

For more than three decades, Randy Crawford's soulful ballads have been as smooth as silk.

Pianist Joe Sample has enjoyed a career spanning four decades - crossing from jazz fusion to funk and everything in between.

When they first collaborated in the recording studio the result was their international hit, Street Life. Their latest collaboration - the album Feeling Good - has been hailed by critics as 'one of the most soulful albums you'll listen to this year'.

Produced by Joe Sample and the legendary Tommy LiPum, Feeling Good is the ultimate mix of great standards and contemporary songs, including All Night Long, Everybody's Talking, and the title track Feeling Good.

Now, touring Australia together in September- performing songs from their Feeling Good album along with their own much-loved classics - their live collaboration, with Crawford's breath-taking voice and Sample's incredible piano, will be unforgettable.

Randy Crawford's career began in Cincinnati, Ohio, when her exceptional singing talent took her from church choir to the club circuit - playing across the United States and Europe before releasing her first single, If You Say The Word, at the tender age of 20. By the following year, she had already shared the stage with jazz legends Cannonball Adderly, George Benson and Quincy Jones.

In 1978, Crawford made her debut on the international charts when she lent her vocal talents to the Crusader's hit Street Life but it was her ballad, One Day I'll Fly Away, (1980) that would become a trademark of the emotive phrasing and unique timbre that has won Crawford so many fans world-wide.

After a spectacular comeback in 1995, with the release of Naked and True, Crawford's immeasurable talent has continued winning critical acclaim as a regular on the distinguished European jazz festival circuit. In September, on her latest tour with Joe Sample, it is finally Australia's turn to see just why, with songs such as Rainy Night In Georgia, Knockin' On Heaven's Door, Same Old Story (Same Old Song), Don't Get Caught In Love's Triangle and Give Me The Night, her career has flourished.

Joe Sample began playing piano at age five and, since then, the Houston, Texas native has explored a wealth of musical genres, including gospel, soul, bebop, blues, Latin, and classical music.

With trombonist Wayne Henderson, tenor saxophonist Wilton Felder and drummer Stix Hooper, Joe Sample launched The Jazz Crusaders in the late 1950's - becoming the Crusaders in the funk-filled 1970s.

Sample's collection of gold and platinum albums, for recordings such as Carmel, Voices In The Rain, Ashes To Ashes, Invitation, Old Places Old Faces and, of course, the George Duke-produced Sample This, are legacy enough. His time as touring sideman to numerous musical greats, including Marvin Gaye, Tina Turner, Joe Cocker, and B.B.King is further proof of Sample's brilliance.
