VECTOR ARENA PRESENTS SJD AT THE GREAT SOUTH PACIFIC TUNING FORK SATURDAY APRIL 18, 2015
SJD Announces Hometown Show in Celebration of New Album
Vector Arena is proud to announce that multi award winning SJD will play an exclusive show at the Great South Pacific Tuning Fork on Saturday April 18, 2015.
A playful mix of electronica, pop-rock, and soul, SJD’s music is rich with experimentation. The Auckland band is on tour to promote their new album, Saint John Divine, featuring high profile collaborations with the likes of Neil Finn and Julia Deans. The album will be released on March 13, 2015 through Universal Records.
At the heart of the band is Sean James Donnelly, who alternates between solo projects and a band presence. SJD won the 2013 Taite Music Prize for Electric Wasteland, a stripped back Sean James Donnelly solo album featuring only synthesizers, drum machines and the human voice. The new album is a complete departure from that sound, with SJD becoming a full band again and starring an outrageously talented group of musicians.
Since Donnelly self-released his first album, he has created five stunning albums for the Round Trip Mars label. The popular Lost Soul Music introduced a wider audience to SJD’s vision with songs like “Tree People” and “A Boy,” while instant classic “Southern Lights” picked up two Tuis at the 2005 NZ Music Awards.
Donnelly is thrilled to be playing in a band again, and SJD are looking forward to getting back on the live circuit with their best ever bunch of songs and a show that highlights their deft musicality, playfulness and vocal power.
