From beginning to end, this production was amazing! The entire cast were great, and the music was fantastic. The story, choreography, sets........nothing disappointed. The only problem I encountered was that it was mighty hard navigating the steps after the show because I couldn't stem the tears.......
The house was half empty which did not bode well for what was to follow. The production, cast and orchestra were of the high standard expected of Sydney Australia. How sad it was therefore to witness what must be the end of the stellar career of the leading lady. Art imitated life . A travesty and we left at interval
I went to this production at the Sydney Opera House with some trepidation due to the poor reviews of the Melbourne season. How wrong they were. I must say the whole cast including Tim Draxl and Sara Brightman were amazing. The same with the orchestra. The music was lush, full and cinematic. The staging was absolutely beautiful with the set moving forwards, backwards and revolving. Thoroughly enjoyed the show and Sara's singing was in fine form and suited her fragile interpretation of Norma Desmond descent into madness. If you are wanting a Patti LuPone or Glen Close blasting mental craziness interpretation of Norma Desmond then this is not the show for you.
I thoroughly enjoyed the show. It was extremely well staged and the orchestra was amazing. The cast were excellent, especially Tim Draxyl, who was spectacular. Unfortunately, although Sarah Brightman did a good job, her voice was too operatic for the role resulting in poor diction at times. This did not affect me too much as I know the soundtrack very well. However friends I attended with were not familiar with the lyrics and missed some important aspects of the story. Nevertheless it was a most enjoyable theatrical experience.
Sunset boulevard meets all expectations. I didn't realise till after that we had Silvie Paladini. She is wonderful. Can't compare her to Sarah Brightman as I didn't see her! Whole cast is excellent. Staging is terrific. Loved it.
