About

The Tallis Scholars have heavenly voices which embody the purity of renaissance sacred music. This is a truly spectacular and not-to-be missed classical music event in Australia.

They have established themselves as leading exponents of Renaissance sacred music through world-class recordings and concert performances. The Australian Tour of The Tallis Scholars is a rare treat and will include music by Tallis, Taverner, Allegri, Palestrina, Gombert, Lassus, Byrd, Sheppard and Parsons.

Director, Peter Phillips, has worked with the ensemble to create, through good tuning and blend, the purity and clarity of sound which he feels best serves the Renaissance repertoire, allowing every detail of the musical lines to be heard. It is the resulting beauty of sound for which The Tallis Scholars have become internationally renowned.

The Australian Tour will feature two special concerts in Melbourne and Sydney where local guest choirs join The Tallis Scholars for performances of Thomas Tallis Spem in Alium. This rarely heard piece is one of the greatest musical compositions of all time, written for 40 independent voice-parts and these opportunities to hear it should not be missed. The Tallis Scholars are delighted to be working with The Choir of Trinity College, Melbourne (2 February) and the Sydney Chamber Choir (10 February).
