  • The Cruel Sea

by Mick Taylor on 19/5/25The Tivoli - BrisbaneRating: 5 out of 5

This was the 4th time I have seen the Cruel Sea, since reuniting to celebrate the 30 year anniversary of the Honey moon is over album. Tonights show at the Tivoli did not dissapoint. The first set was of the Looking straight at the sun album , from start to finish, the second set was of Cruel Sea classics. I was such a proud father to take my 21 year old son with me, and we enjoyed a great night, of great music, from such a great band. Sounding amazing from the opening number through to the finale, black stick. Tex has to be the best frontman ever.

  • Disappointing

Good to hear such an outstanding group of musicians as Cruel Sea play songs from their new album. However I had talked a friend into coming along, telling her how the Palais went off during the anniversary tour, especially when Cruel Sea played the two biggest original hits, especially the Honeymoon is Over. The only time you came close to exciting the audience in a similar way was when you played Delivery Man. Maybe factor in what your long term, loyal fan base want to hear as well as opportunity to introduce us to your new album and other material in your catalogue. My friend was disappointed as well. A highlight was the opportunity to meet Dan Rumour after the show. Had a much better night at the Palais.

  • Stylish, classy and musically talented

The Cruel Sea were fabulous. They performed their new album in the first half & performed their older music in the second half. Tex Perkins was entertaining with smooth vocals & moves & the band is musically brilliant. The show as a whole was fantastic & did not disappoint.

  • Live at gardens

The concert was amazing ! Well run . Only complaint was banning of low chairs .it was uncomfortable sitting on the grass for over 5 hours

  • Very disappointing

I was really looking forward to this gig. The weather was perfect, the venue was fantastic, and the food options were solid. It had all the makings of an amazing night—until The Cruel Sea took the stage. Unfortunately, Tex Perkins was completely off his face. He didn’t know the lyrics, relying on his phone to check them. He stumbled through songs, at times wandering off stage and leaving the band to carry the performance without him. It was incredibly disappointing for a headline act, especially considering the price of tickets. That said, Mark Seymour and Linda were both fabulous. Their performances were polished, engaging, and a pleasure to watch—everything The Cruel Sea should have been but wasn’t. Overall, while the atmosphere and support acts were great, the main event left a sour taste. A real letdown when I was ho

Great bands and venue. However, considering the age of the audience & the length of the concert we would’ve appreciated seating or byo chairs. We have never been to an outside concert/event where you couldn’t bring your own chairs. There are many people that for various reasons cannot sit on the ground. As a result my wife couldnt attend, which was disappointing.
