THE MAN FROM SNOWY RIVER in CONCERT
LIVE TO FILM WITH THE SOUTHERN CROSS SYMPHONY CONDUCTED BY VANESSA SCAMMEL
Southern Cross Symphony will perform the award-winning score by Bruce Rowland live to screen of this iconic film in concert, under the baton of Vanessa Scammell.
The Man From Snowy River launched the stellar careers of Sigrid Thornton and Tom Burlinson. The movie, which also starred Jack Thompson and the late, great Kirk Douglas ushered in a glorious new age for Australian film making.
Inspired by the Banjo Patterson poem, The Man from Snowy River tells the exhilarating tale of Jim Craig, an 18-year-old who, after losing his father, must prove himself in the harsh high country and win the respect of the rugged mountain men. Along the way, he discovers love, adventure and a secret hidden in the hills more precious than any treasure.
Sold out in 2024 and returning for two performances only, book early to secure your seats for The Man From Snowy River in Concert.
Presented by Spiritworks and Theatre Tours International.

We had great seats and the experience was terrific. My wife (for some reason) thought it was a stage play and wondered how they were going to do the horse scenes running down the hill. Yes well, that would have been something, but even after realizing it was a movie, she said it was the best event she had been to in a while, the music is just fantastic and with a full symphony orchestra booming it out, well ............... amazing
The Man from Snowy River movie is one of Australia's iconic, thrilling movies in our history. The scenes of the brumbies racing around in the Victorian high-country is for me, the best horse-riding skills seen anywhere in the world. The filming of these scenes is really astonishing - it would have been no easy feat to film such fast paced action. The live orchestra playing in that magnificent Concert Hall made the whole experience the most one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Watching the live orchestra being conducted by Vanessa Scammel was breath-taking and very emotional to watch.
Unbelievable maestro was perfect Could watch her conduct all day could tell she luvs her job smiling and meticulous Orchestra amazing Perfect never out of sync The man from snowy Brillant as always Luved it from start to finish and enjoyed the interview at intermission never seen that before
A truly emotional memorable evening. After growing up with this movie and having the music truly come to life and physically move you, there were many tears. Congratulations on a perfect choice of score.
The orchestra was brilliant as an amazing accompaniment to such an iconic, enjoyable Australian movie of the 80’s. Just so unfortunate that no announcement was made about interesting historical and behind the scenes information was going to be screened during the interval. If we had known, we would have stayed seated in the theatre.
What a magical evening with a fantastic orchestra supporting the screening of an iconic film. The orchestra performance is something we will never forget as they delivered in perfect sync with the movie.
