Gregory Porter is coming to Australia

Grammy-winning jazz and soul icon Gregory Porter returns to Australia for the first time since 2017, performing at the Odeon for his only Tasmanian show. Known for his rich baritone, heartfelt songwriting, and collaborations with the likes of Robert Glasper and Lizz Wright, Porter brings his world-class band and timeless sound to Hobart this October.


On his Australian tour Gregory will be accompanied by players whose Porter roots are so deep they go back to the beginnings of his recording career. They include Chip Crawford (piano and arrangements), Emmanuel Harol (drums) Tivan Pennicott (tenor sax), and Jahmal Nichols (bass).

    A superlative performance slightly marred for me having to leave before the end of the performance for other planned matters. This was due to the incorrect and grossly misleading promotional and ticketing info that advised an event start for 6:15 pm, not 7:pm. Incredulously I was later advised the 6:15 was the early door access to the venue. After about 60 years of various events attendance, this has to a first, that a door opening time is advised in preference to the actual event time. Venue access times is can be useful supplementary info but should NEVER be confused with a performance start. Please get your act and/or that of the venue manager together in future.
